There is this aged man (whom I prefer to stay annonymous) who frequently visits SuperFast Internet Connect, the Cyber Cafe recently added to the Galax Infotech Network, where Uncle Che works.
I admire this Dad very much. Despite the fact that he has Parkinson, he is very strong and flexible. He walks miles to come and dictate his mails to be typed ans sent to his relatives in the US. Recently, I learned he does sports, plays football. I didn’t want to believe it when I saw him in sports attire. No! Not until Uncle Che’s friend told me two days later.
Today, when I visited the cyber, I saw and and as usual he asked me to help him since the cyber attendant was too busy. I thought he wanted to send mails to his relatives as usual, no! Today, he wrote a piece to be read out on a radio program called Cameroon Calling. I loved his write up very much. It is quoted below…
My name is (
xxxxxxx)
Dear Cameroon Calling,
I am an ardent reader of newspapers, for I very much believe in documented news hence most of the newspaper news is hardly been challenged. For sometime now I find it difficult to buy a newspaper due to it prohibitive price of 400 CFA per newspaper.
My humble appeal is that with the comfortable subvention from government of each newspaper worker being paid 150.000CFA per month, I therefore plead that the cost of newspaper be brought down to 250CFA so that one can easily grab four different papers at a time for 1000 CFA, in this way more people will patronize the newspaper industry. Early history says a postage stamp in London was once one shilling per letter and only rich people could post letter, but when economists’ advised that postage stamp drop to one penny per letter, more people went in for letter writing and that Department became a Ministry with trucks of letters here and there. So could be the newspaper story.
Sir CC, kindly reframe this letter before reading if need be.
Thanks,
Malingo – Molyko, Buea.
