Uncle Che told me how he developed very strong passion for movies. He said the very first time he watch a TV screen, in 1983, the very first scene was a movie, which of course he can’t really remember. However, what was very prominent was that a soldier on the run hit a mind and a bomb exploded and threw him to the ground.

Though that incident got him very scared at first, he later on realized that it was very interesting and fulfilled. He always wanted to watch a movie on each opportunity but his major problem was that he always went to bed early while the movies start at 11pm. He always bullied his younger brothers and sisters to wake him up when the movies start. He could accept anything be done to get him up, including hitting him hard or pouring water on his back.

Movies to him were equally as great as music. His dad was running a small home business of selling drinks. Uncle Che always loved sitting behind the console and selecting the music to play and deciding on how the knobs have to be tweaked to produce good performance.

Today, it is no surprise to me that the best of what he wishes for is a career in the movie industry; sound engineering and video editing. He is planning on starting with sound engineering (Pro Tools, to be specific) in South Africa (Sound Engineering Academy) before moving into a university that offers courses in Film. I guess as his life partner, I will have to fall in love with the mic and camcorder It is just natural to love what your love loves, as long as it doesn’t go against ethical, moral and religious principles.

OK. Now some food for thought. What is the difference between a career and a job?
